In 1993, the department of Descriptive Geometry and Theoretical Mechanics within the Faculty of Mechanics began offering training in construction specialties. In 1995, based on this department, a separate department dedicated to “Construction” was established.
From 1995 to 1996 and from 1998 to 2007, the head of the department was Khodzhibaev Abduaziz Abdusattorovich, Doctor of Technical Sciences (passed away in 2021).
During these years, experienced teachers, candidates of technical sciences (Ph.D.), worked at the department. Associate Professor Razzakov A.R., Ph.D. Aminov F.A., Associate Professor Ph.D. Jalolov A.F., senior lecturer, candidate of agricultural sciences Ph.D. Nasrulloev A.D., senior lecturer Abdulloev D. (passed away in 2011), Ph.D. Vakhobov A.M., senior teacher Khatamova S.M. and a young and promising teacher Usmanov Sh.Z.
From October 1996 to August 1998, the position of head of the department was held by Candidate of Technical Sciences, Abdulloev D.A.
From February 2007, Acting Head of the department was appointed Candidate of Agricultural Sciences Nasrulloev A.D. Later, in March of the same year (2007), he was elected as the Head of the department. During the period from 2007 to January 2011, the department prepared specialists in five specialties:
700201 (2903) – Industrial and civil engineering;
2904 – hydraulic engineering construction;
2905 – urban construction and economy;
2915 – examination and management of real estate;
2907 – heat and gas supply and ventilation
During this period, more than 450 students were enrolled. In these years, faculty members, including Ph.D., Associate Professor M. Mamurov, Ph.D., Muhammedov U.S., and the young teacher O. Rasulov, joined the department as full-time staff members.
In 2010, the Polytechnic Institute of Tajik Technical University named after Academician M.S. Osimi, was established in the city of Khujand, uniting the Khujand branch of Tajik Technical University and the Khujand branch of Technological University of Tajikistan. The Department of Construction, within its bachelor’s degree programs, initiated the training of specialists in the following disciplines:
700201 – Civil and industrial engineering;
700101 – Production of building products and structures.
It should be noted that from January 10, 2011 to July 1, 2015, the position of head of the department was held by an experienced teacher, one of the famous scientists in the field of mechanics in the Republic of Tajikistan, candidate of technical sciences, associate professor M. Mamurov. The department at this time reached the highest level of development.
From August 2015 to January 2020, the position of head of the department was held by a young scientist Usmanov Sh.Z.

From January 2020 to the present, the position of head of the department is held by candidate of technical sciences, Aminov F.A.
At present, the department is staffed by three candidates of technical sciences: F.A. Aminov, O.R. Rasulov, and D. Oripov. Additionally, there is one candidate of agricultural sciences, A.D. Nasrulloev. The team includes three senior lecturers: A.I. Dadobaev, A.B. Atobaev, and M.R. Rakhmatov. Furthermore, the department has two assistants: Kh.B. Dododzhonov and K. Kholmatov.
The department has the following laboratories: building physics, geodesy, building materials and structures, strength of materials. These laboratories are equipped with the necessary modern equipment that meets modern requirements.
Since 2013, the department began training masters in specialty 700201 – industrial and civil engineering. Currently, there are 15 master’s students enrolled in two courses.
In 2014, doctoral studies (PhD) were initiated in the field of industrial and civil engineering under specialty code 700201. Currently, the program has seen notable progress, with one doctoral student, Nodirabegim Olimova, successfully completing her studies. She is now in the process of preparing to defend her scientific dissertation.
Teachers of the department, Shukhrat Zaurovich Usmonov and Olimzhon Rakhmonberdievich Rasulov, underwent their higher education at prestigious universities in Moscow, Russian Federation. They pursued studies at NIISF RAASN (Scientific Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Architecture and Construction Sciences) and the National Research University MGSU (Moscow State University of Civil Engineering). In the year 2016, both educators successfully defended their dissertations, earning them the academic title of Candidate of Technical Sciences.
The department collaborates with numerous enterprises and construction organizations, including research design organizations and architectural firms in the Republic of Tajikistan. It also engages with the Department of Capital Construction of the city of Khujand in the Sughd region, as well as with the departments of architecture and urban planning in cities and districts of the region. The department has established partnerships with the design institute “Bunyodgari Sugdzamin” the branch of JSC “Research SANIIOSP” in the Sughd region, the construction companies “Tinial” and “Sugdsofkor”
At the listed enterprises, internships are conducted in areas related to the design of buildings and structures, project support during the construction process, and assessment of the technical condition of the building during operation and reconstruction.
The department has an educational and research laboratory “Building materials and structures”, which is actively used by teachers of the department, graduate and undergraduate students. Every year, teachers of the department prepare guidelines, textbooks for publication and re-publish them to improve practical laboratory work.
The department is a regular participant in scientific and practical conferences. Some of the conferences held at the department include:
Republican Scientific and Practical Conference – “Modern Problems in the Field of Architecture, Construction, and Transport”, KPITTU, November 23-24, 2012, Khujand. Republican Scientific and Practical Conference – “Development of Architecture, Construction, and Production of Building Materials”, KPITTU, April 25, 2015, Khujand. On November 29, 2016, a scientific seminar was conducted on the theme “Design and Construction in the Years of Independence.” This seminar was organized for students and postgraduates specializing in 700201 – Industrial and Civil Engineering. Additionally, it is worth noting that on June 1-2, 2023, in close collaboration between the departments of “Construction” and “Architecture,” an international scientific and practical conference took place. This conference was dedicated to the “Twentieth Anniversary of the Study and Development of Natural Sciences, Exact Disciplines, and Mathematics in the Field of Science and Education for 2020-2040.” The conference’s theme focused on “Mysteries and Prospects of the Development of Construction and Architecture in the Republic of Tajikistan.”
